Nepal - Educational Outreach in Kathmandu
This teaching project provides opportunities for foreign teachers to make an extremely valuable contribution to the lives of schoolchildren, who will get the chance to practice their English with native speakers while also learning about other cultures. Volunteers work in one of three school locations: either in the heart of Kathmandu, or in nearby Pokhara or Chitwan.
Specific tasks may include:
- Leading lessons in math, history, science, geography and more
- Teaching lessons in English vocabulary, grammar and spelling
- Providing English language enrichment through group conversations or one-on-one practice
- Engaging in different games, arts and culture activities.
A typical day: You will be placed as a teaching assistant in a class of about 25 students, and will be expected to lead four to five lessons per week. School hours are from 10am until 4pm, with lunch provided by the school at noon. Volunteers may choose to stay for the entire day, or leave after finishing their lessons. In order to enrich the curriculum, you may be encouraged to introduce creative and fun ideas such as sports, games, and arts and crafts projects.
Project length: Min 2 weeks - Max 8 weeks
