Venture to Europe’s northernmost point with a friend, seeking the northern lights on this amazing deal. Also known as aurora borealis, the northern lights are a natural phenomenon where large solar explosions throw huge quantities of particles from the sun towards Earth. The energy released by those particles is seen 100 kilometres below as the northern lights and is often referred to as “the Green Lady” by locals.
Start your journey with leisure time in Amsterdam and explore the city’s most iconic landmarks. Head to the Museum District for the Van Gogh Museum and works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum. Explore Amsterdam’s unique waterways: three concentric canals dug in the 17th century (the Gratchengordel), 90 islands and 1500 bridges, with The Brouwersgracht (Brewers' Canal) as the most picturesque. Board Hurtigruten’s ‘MS Maud' ship for a 14-night cruise that will take you to the top of Europe. MS Maud has everything you need, ensuring you are ready to discover a world away from the ordinary. With a décor inspired by Norway’s stunning nature, reflected in many of the pieces of Norwegian modern art on board. A must is a visit to the Science Center, a hive of active research, analysis and learning. Get involved with Citizen Science projects and build a better understanding of the destinations the vessel explores. While you cruise, Restaurant Lindstrøm will become the fine dining area; Restaurant Fredheim will be the ship’s informal and social meeting place, offering casual fast food and plant-based alternatives, while Restaurant Aune is be the ship's main dining room.
Cruising into Norway, the first port of call is Stavanger, where you can discover some architectural jewels, including a magnificent 12th-century cathedral. The next stop is Kalvåg, whose name means ‘Frozen Bay’ in the Old Norse. Cruise cruise towards the Arctic Circle through Helgeland County. Don’t miss the peaks of the Seven Sisters Mountain Range, thought to be the petrified bodies of seven troll sisters caught out at sunrise, and spot Torghatten Mountain with its distinct hole through the middle. Reach Svolvær city in the Lofoten area and then Tromsø, the capital of the Arctic, before arriving in Honningsvåg to visit one of the northernmost points in Europe - the North Cape. This is the ship’s turning point. From here, you’ll start your return trip southbound via the island of Senja, Norway’s Remote Islands and Sognefjorden, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. Here, you can join a fascinating excursion to the glacier Jostedalsbreen and visit the interactive Norwegian Glacier Museum. Stop in Bergen, one of the country's most beautiful cities and the former capital of Norway, before returning to the Netherlands for another two nights in Amsterdam before returning to Australia or New Zealand.
This is a travel experience like no other with return international full-service flights, a 14-night cruise aboard Hurtigruten’s ‘MS Maud’ ship, 4 nights of 4-star hotel in Amsterdam and 41 meals.
