There’s something hugely rewarding about becoming part of a local community and reaping the
benefits of befriending the people living and working in the country you’re in. One of the best ways to gain access to this is through volunteering.
On Saturday the 25th of July 2020, 42 volunteers put on their working gloves and were ready to help out the community at Blue Lagoon Christian Camp. Nestled in the heart of picturesque Dodges Ferry, Blue Lagoon is the ultimate destination for your next school camp, group getaway, church retreat, or event.
The volunteer’s roles were to eradicate all weeds that could cause potential fire hazards and were then replaced with trees and shrubs which added life to the gardens. Other volunteers planted mulch on the gardens and raked the grounds to make it even before planting new flora.
For morning tea, the volunteers were rewarded for their hard work with delicious, warm,
homemade jam donuts which filled their tummies enough before the second round of volunteer
work. Then for lunch, the staff were lovely enough to provide us with a delicious healthy lunch and a scrumptious dessert spread. Now we have enough energy for the activities coming up!
For some team-building fun, the volunteers were able to use the camp’s own recreational area, where they could attempt to climb the rock-climbing wall or do the crate climb as shown to the left. This tested their patience and balance as they had to stack up crates one-by-one until they reached the top. This was a good opportunity for volunteers to work together as a team, while at the same time getting to know each other.
With a large group, we were able to achieve more and see the results of our efforts first-hand. Not only this but with so many people, we were able to bond with people we rarely get to see or those who we do not know. It’s a great bonding experience and a great way to make new friends and meet new people. We highly recommend coming to volunteer with us here at Travel with a Cause! :)
