Enjoy Tasmania while searching for the famous Southern Lights – the spectacular Aurora Australis. En route enjoy the beautiful city of Hobart and its many attractions, visit Hobart’s oldest vineyard at Moorilla, indulge in the fine tastes of the Huon Valley including treats from local providores, get in touch with nature at Bruny Island and discover the infamous Port Arthur historic site.

There is also an option to finish the trip with a Cradle Mountain extension.

  • Day 1: Arrive Hobart

    Start with a short transfer to Hobart where you will be introduced into the city's history Salamanca Market, the Waterfront & Battery Point districts. Heads up to Mt. Wellington for fantastic photo opportunities of the River Derwent, the city and Southern Tasmania.

    Day 2: Mona, Moorilla & Wine(BL)

    Today we explore the Museum of Old & New Art (MONA), the largest private art collection in Australia. With its fascinatingly eclectic blend of ancient & modern exhibits, it is one of the world's most controversial museums. Enjoy lunch at the Source, MONA's flagship restaurant. In the afternoon, take a private tour on MONA's own vineyard "Moorilla" including a wine tasting. Discover the charming village of Richmond with its well-preserved colonial architecture then return to your hotel.

    Day 3: Huon Valley Indulgence (BL)

    Begin your journey into the picturesque and fertile lands of the Huon Valley. Visit the first alembic copper still in Australia, purpose-built for making apple brandy. Indulge in a tasting and delicious morning tea. Follow the coastal road into the quaint township of Cygnet which lies between the beautiful D’Entrecasteaux Channel on one side and the majestic Huon river on the other. Enjoy cider tastings and visit other fine providores to sample unique and award-winning cheeses. At a restaurant overlooking the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, partake of local produce for lunch. In the afternoon, taste sumptuous local handmade chocolates before we head back to Hobart for overnight.

    Day 4: Bruny Island & Search for the Southern Lights continued (BL)

    Bruny Island is a peaceful oasis where time seems to stand still. Only a short ferry ride from the coastal town of Kettering, but it is a world away. Enjoy a day of stunning scenery and indulge in quality local produce, such as freshly shucked oysters and delicious berries. Relax at an award-winning winery for a gourmet lunch. Located in the South Bruny National Park at the far end of Adventure bay is the famous Fluted Cape walk. It offers spectacular views of roaring coastal swell and beautiful bays. The area abounds with local wildlife, including curious White Wallabies. After dark, travel to South Bruny in search of the magical Southern lights (Aurora Australis). This evening is led by our guide explaining and showcasing all the tips and tricks how to capture the stunning southern night skies.

    Day 5: Tasman Peninsula & continue in search for the Southern Lights (BL)

    After breakfast, discover more sights on this little island paradise before we make our way back onto the ferry to Kettering. Lunch is arranged on Mt Nelson signal station. In the afternoon, the journey continues onto the Tasman Peninsula with destination Eagle Hawk Neck. After dinner, we try our luck again and head out to a place with no light pollution to capture the night sky and hopefully an Aurora Australis.

    Day 6: Port Arthur & Tasman Peninsula (BL) 

    The Port Arthur Historic Site is one of Tasmania’s most visited destinations in Tasmania. Set in tranquil gardens Tasmania’s famous convict settlement site harbours a dark history which our experienced guide will bring to life. As you stroll amongst the now peaceful buildings, envisage the harsh life that was endured by the hapless convicts. View the famous geological features of the peninsula as you explore the rugged coastline. In the afternoon visit the UnZoo where you will meet Tasmania’s enigmatic character, the Tasmanian Devil. Here you can also see a variety of local wild fauna and take the opportunity to hand feed the delightful kangaroos. After dark, there will be another chance to head out in search for the lights (not guided).

    Day 7: Coal River Valley- Departure (BL)

    Today it means farewell from Tasmania. On our way back to Hobart, be invited to a farewell lunch including wine tasting at the table at Frogmore Creek Restaurant and winery. Later this afternoon, your guide drops you off at Hobart airport.

    Day 7: Overnight Hobart (BL)

    After guests who do not extend and have been dropped off at Hobart airport, your guide will take you to you Hobart city accommodation. Rest of the day is at leisure.

    Day 8-9: Cradle Mountain N.P. (BL)

    Be met by your local tour guide after breakfast. Continue your journey with a scenic drive northbound. Depending on the weather and conditions, we may choose to travel via the Great Lakes Plateau and the Tasmanian highlands. Should the road-conditions not allow to take this route, the Midland Highway will be chosen. Lunch is arranged in a local restaurant before we make our way to the UNESCO World heritage-listed Cradle Mountain National Park. After settling into your accommodation, unwind yourself and listen to the sounds of the nature before your guide invites you to get close to our iconic animal, The Tasmanian Devil’. Visit a local sanctuary, where you learn everything about this quirky animal, see them in their natural habitat and even help feeding them.

    On a clear day the rugged grandeur of Cradle Mountain is reflected in the tranquil waters of Dove Lake, or you may experience the drama of its craggy peaks through swirling mist. Your guide will introduce you to the many endemic fauna and flora species of the region whilst enjoying picturesque views on your walk beneath the spectacular craggy peaks. Magical forests of Pandani (the tallest heath plant in the world), Sassafras, King Billy Pines and the deciduous Beech can be seen adjacent to spectacular glacial lakes. Birds such as Forest Ravens, Black Currawongs and Wedge-tailed Eagles are present in this area, whilst Echidnas, Platypus, Spotted-tailed Quoll and the Eastern Quoll may also be seen.During your stay, enjoy the beautiful alpine landscapes of Cradle Mountain.

    Days 10: Marakoopa Caves- Launceston (BL)

    Enjoy a leisurely morning at your accommodation before your journey continues towards Launceston. On our way, visit the stunning Marakoopa Caves on an underground rivers and glow-worm tour before arriving in Tasmania’s second biggest city. Enjoy a lunch in a local restaurant with views over the famous Cataract Gorge. Early afternoon, this journey concluded at Launceston airport. (we do recommend booking outbound flights not before 4pm)
